    Charlene R. Chan, DDS, MSD


    Born and raised in California, Dr. Charlene Chan
    completed four years of dental education at
    Loma Linda University, where she received both
    a bachelor of science (B.S.) degree and doctor of dental
    surgery degree(D.D.S.) in 1988. She was inducted into the
    national dental honor society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon
    Award. Dr. Chan pursued a specialty in orthodontics,
    spending two additional years at the  University of the
    Pacific, San Francisco, receiving a certificate in
    orthodontics and master of science in dentistry (M.S.D.) in
    1991. She continued as assistant professor of orthodontics
    in the graduate orthodontic department at Pacific until
    2006. Dr. Chan is a Diplomate of the American Board of
    Orthodontics.

    Upon completing her specialty training, Dr. Chan joined her father, Dr. Ernest Chan in
    private practice here in Sebastopol, CA. They worked side by side for 10 years until Dr.
    Ernest Chan retired. During that time she gained valuable skills and knowledge from
    her father's experience. "Those years are some of the most treasured times of my life. He
    has so much experience and wisdom to share, as a colleague and as a father. "

    Dr. Chan thoroughly enjoys practicing in Sonoma County, and continues to be
    involved in learning new and alternative techniques and updating her skills in the field
    of orthodontics. "This community is very committed to family; it is a privilege to be a
    part of such caring people. And with all the new developments in our field today, I
    enjoy  being a part of this wonderful specialty more than ever!"

    Dr. Chan has volunteered with numerous organizations including the Volunteer Health
    Professionals, the Junior League of Napa-Sonoma, the Redwood Dental Society,
    Hanna Boys Center and various local study clubs. She is a member of many
    organizations including:


    Dr.Chan lives with her husband, Ken Ip,
    an ophthalmologist, and infant son. They enjoy
    the outdoors gardening, hiking, kayaking,
    mountaineering, classical and jazz music.

    Monica L. Chmiel, DDS, MS


    We are pleased to have Dr. Monica Chmiel as a
    member of  our orthodontic team. Dr. Chmiel
    works alongside Dr. Chan in continuing each
    patient’s treatment.

    Dr. Chmiel is committed to excellence in patient
    care, sharing the vision and mission statement of
    Charlene R. Chan, DDS, Inc. As evident in her
    caring chairside manner, Dr. Chmiel thoroughly
    enjoys working with people of all ages. Her skills
    and knowledge of the latest technologies and
    advances in the orthodontic profession will bring
    additional assets to the practice by keeping us at
    the forefront of orthodontics.

    Dr. Monica Chmiel was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.  She attended
    Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario where she received a Bachelor of Science
    Degree with Honors. She completed her dental degree at Columbia University in New
    York and subsequently received a specialty certificate in Orthodontics and Masters of
    Science degree at the University of California, San Francisco.  Her clinical skills have
    been recognized by being selected to present for the College of Diplomates of the
    American Board of Orthodontics at the American Association of Orthodontics
    Conference.  She is an active member of the California Dental Association, American
    Association of Orthodontics and Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontics.

    Dr. Chmiel is an avid runner and participated in the Philadelphia Marathon in 2002; she
    plans to run the New York City Marathon next year.  Her other interests include hiking,
    skiing, and taking road trips to explore new places with family and friends.
